Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) presents its ‘New Beginnings’ concert Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 7:30pm at the St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall on the Romeoville campus of Lewis University. The concert is free and open to the public, with donations accepted online and at the door. The concert will be repeated on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 3:00pm at the Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Auditorium, with $10 tickets at the door or online.
The orchestra will perform its ‘New Beginnings’ fall concert under the direction of Peter Lipari. Maestro Lipari is the Director of Orchestras at Joliet Township High School and Music Director of the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Singers, and Festival Orchestra.
The concert program will feature the widely classic and familiar overture works for orchestra including Nicolai’s joyful Merry Wives of Windsor and Borodin’s heroic Prince Igor Overture. MYSO will also perform Coleridge-Taylor’s fiery and cinematic Ballade in A minor, Op. 33.
The November 8th concert will feature Guest Flutist Marcus Boyd and his special performance of Mozart’s Flute Concerto 2 in D major. This concert will also include the October repertoire.
Both concerts will include prelude music by Flute Salad, a teen flute ensemble led by Dr. Jennifer Gosack-Darwell.
Founded in 1959 the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra has resided in Will County since 1991. Players in MYSO come from area high schools and middle schools, as well as Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.
MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening that school is in session from 6:15 to 8:45 at Lewis University. The orchestra currently has openings in their clarinet, bassoon, horn and string sections. For more concert and audition information, visit www.mysomusic.org.
